The sword looks impressive, sure, but at that size it’s nigh-useless for blocking and needs an inconvenient amount of strength and windup to swing.

Gareth doesn’t have the gloves anymore. They have been put in the royal armory for safekeeping(which is probably a good idea all around.)
You are right about Gareth being able to handle things on his own. In fact, he has been very proactive in trying to solve his problem without Sharona’s help(as we will see in a few pages.)
