Nicely symbolic, especially when compared to the cover page of The Lying Game; little Sharona is more thoroughly in Sanibal’s shadow than her adult version, and Sanibal’s shadowy hand is thoroughly upon her.
Sanibal was a big influence on Sharona for much of her life, and not always in a good way.
Of course not all of it was bad either. Many of Sharona’s survival skills were learned from Sanibal and Sanibal did warn her not to trust goblins, didn’t she?
Sharona probably should have listened to that particular piece of advice. 😉
