Actually, Ziffa doesn’t have a back up plan. She hadn’t counted on Sharona getting out of the Tower of Agony.
Sharona’s reference to her mother was just an off hand comment, but I do have some plans for future stories that may throw a little light on her past. 😉
If she hasn’t got some kind of plan ready, she is really calm under pressure…. Some type of emotional dissociation while facing the strong possibility of death?
….
Or has she already spent all of the money? =_=
I think it’s more a matter of Ziffa underestimating how mad Sharona really is and overestimating her own ability to talk Sharona around.
Ziffa has spent most of her life betraying others and being betrayed, and has more of a “It’s just business, it’s not personal” attitude about it, whereas Sharona sees it a little differently(as you probably noticed). 😉
I’ve purposely left the details of Sharona’s escape vague since I suspect my readers’ imagination is probably better than anything I could show, but let’s just say that getting out of the tower in one piece was no easy task!
WHY? You had a nice sharp sword! Why go throwing her around and punching her when you can just stab her? Fair fights are for Superman or the practice ring. If you’re not Superman, and not sparring, CHEAT! Never give an opponent a chance to talk or think up a way to turn the tables. GAH!
I think Sharona prefers the pleasure of pummeling her with her bare hands over skewering her with her sword.
Ziffa is a schemer but not much of a fighter so Sharona isn’t too worried about her turning the tables on her.
And that kind of overconfidence is how weaker, conniving fighters turn the tables on you! Sure, it doesn’t happen often, but why take that chance? At least take a leg off so she can’t get any leverage or run away! (Yes, I do tend towards CE.)
Sharona should shave Ziffa bald then tie her up and send the delusional purple naked goblin to the tower of agony for their S&M games. But don’t kill her capital punishment is so immoral and S&M games are so fun bad goblin bad bad goblin now you must get a spanky wanky. Then again Ziffa would get drunk and lied though not as planned.
So…. Is Ziffa’s mother proud of her? Do they have a good relationship? Or is Ziffa just saying what she thinks Sharona needs to hear not to murder her, in panel three?
Ziffa is making more of a throw away statement, although in reality Ziffa has a good relationship with her mother.
Culturally, goblins have a reputation for lying, cheating and stealing, so Ziffa’s behavior doesn’t make her a black sheep in her family.
In fact, her mother is proud of her for being so good at what she does.
Ziffa seems too calm…. my paranoia senses are tingling!
So. First mention of Sharona’s mother! Backstory time? 😀

The no holds barred beatdown was a solid clue, on top of Sharona drawing her sword on Ziffa while she was sound asleep, yes…. ^^;
Ah, now we know why she’s so tall and purple!
Now I hope we get a flashback to how exactly she escaped and with no battle damage!

Just so long as she doesn’t do it to her, right? 😉
Even Ziffa wouldn’t try to scam her own mother. Her brothers, sisters and cousins maybe…
I’d like to say I think better of her for having that much restraint, but I dunno….. ^^;
